CINECA on Debian Extended Long Term Support
Freexian ELTS helped Cineca to be more flexible with our planned upgrades. That is very valuable given the number of Debian systems that we have in production. Our security specialists found no exploitable vulnerabilities while assessing our Debian systems.
On top of that, even though we rolled out hundreds of Freexian-provided updates over multiple years, we had almost no regressions in our production infrastructure.

Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs on Debian LTS and ELTS
In 2005, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs chose to use the Debian GNU/Linux distribution for the functional stability and quality it offers.
To demonstrate our commitment to the philosophy of free software, we decided to contribute to the Debian community through Freexian’s LTS sponsorship program.
In 2022, we identified the need to extend the security support of our servers for an additional 2 years. Freexian, with their ELTS offer, won the tender we published. This support allows us to keep our entire IT infrastructure secure.
After more than 2 years of using Freexian’s ELTS, our assessment of this service is very positive.
The responsiveness and involvement of the Freexian teams, composed of official Debian developers and recognized contributors in the Debian community, allow us to provide a high quality service to our users.

OffSec’s journey with Kali Linux and Freexian

When we were preparing for the major upgrade to BackTrack 5, it quickly became clear that we needed to completely overhaul our underlying Linux platform. After evaluating our options, basing BackTrack’s successor on Debian emerged as the obvious choice. However, this introduced a new challenge: our team had limited experience with Debian and required expert guidance. Naturally, we turned to the person who quite literally wrote the book on Debian—Raphaël Hertzog—and the Freexian team.
Our experience with BackTrack had taught us a great deal, and we recognized the need for a robust infrastructure to support our release workflows and package maintenance with as much automation as possible. We needed to track the constantly evolving Debian Testing branch while ensuring a stable, high-performance penetration testing platform. With a small team, automation wasn’t a luxury—it was a necessity. Raphaël rose to the occasion and collaborated with us to build the foundation that would eventually become Kali Linux.
For over a decade now, we’ve worked closely with Raphaël and the Freexian team to evolve and maintain Kali Linux, ensuring its place as the premier penetration testing platform for both professional and hobbyist users. Kali occupies a unique space in the industry: it is designed for experienced information security practitioners, yet it also serves as many users’ first introduction to Linux.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved with Kali Linux and deeply grateful for the trust the community and industry have placed in it as the de facto standard in this field. None of this would have been possible without Raphaël’s expertise and dedication.
Thank you, Raphaël—we look forward to continuing this journey with you for many more years to come.
